UCA Applauds Presidential Memorandum

UCA Statement on Presidential Memorandum Issued on January 26, 2021

United Chinese Americans (UCA) applauds the Presidential Memorandum issued today by Biden-Harris Administration condemning and combating racism, xenophobia, and intolerance against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States.

In 2020, there were nearly 3,000 hate incidents committed against AAPI communities. Among them, Chinese Americans have borne the brunt of these discriminations and hostilities. Federal program such as DOJ’s China Initiative has made Chinese American scientific community targeted and fearful. Irresponsible government officials, media outlets, organizations and individuals have inflamed and incited the condemnable actions cited in the Presidential Memorandum. They must be held accountable for what they have done to sow the division, hate and lies in our society. As a community we must come together to fight them whenever and wherever they occur.

As a leading national coalition fighting for the well-being of Chinese American communities and for this multi-ethnic democracy, we are working in the coming months and years with Federal, State and local governments, responsible media, civic organizations, and other ethnic communities to confront racism and discrimination head on, and fight for our civil and constitutional rights.

To this end, United Chinese Americans (UCA) commends Members of Congress in both chambers and civil rights groups whose concerted and tireless efforts have made this Presidential Memorandum possible in the first week of the Biden-Harris Administration. Let’s unite and work together to make this land a truly equitable and inclusive one.
