In Washington State, SB 5023 was passed in 2019 addressing ethnic studies in grades 7-12, and SB6066 was passed in 2020 adding grades K-6. The bills mandated the State education authorities to provide ethnic studies materials to schools and encouraged schools to offer ethnic studies courses in grades 7-12, and to incorporate age-appropriate materials in grades k-6. The bills also mandated the establishment of an Ethnic Studies Advisory Committee.
