Curriculum Advocacy – Vermont

Vermont State Act 1 of 2019 was signed into law on March 29th, 2019. The Act is titled “An act relating to ethnic and social equity studies standards for public schools”. It covers education about all historically marginalized racial, ethnic and religious groups, as well as nondominant social groups (women, diabled, LGBTQ, etc). The bill mandated the establishment of the “Ethnic and Social Equity Standards Advisory Working Group.” There are no State mandated standards. Curriculum contents are left to the discretion of local schools. But the Advisory Working Group will provide oversight and suggestions for improvements.
